Slate Sphere Water Feature
A stunning spherical water feature, handcrafted from natural slate, creates a mesmerising focal point for any garden. Water cascades gently over the textured surface, filling your outdoor space with soothing sound and a sculptural, contemporary elegance that suits both modern and traditional settings.
As each sphere is handmade, no two are ever quite the same — subtle natural variations give every piece its own individual charm.
Available in four diameters: 400mm, 500mm, 700mm and 900mm. Every sphere comes as a complete water feature package, with everything you need to get up and running straight away.
Individual spheres are our most popular choice, but we also offer discounted packages for those buying two or three spheres of differing sizes — perfect for larger design schemes.
Add the optional light and we'll bore out the top of the outlet and fit it free of charge.

Why Our Slate Spheres Stand Apart
- Generously sized reservoirs — reduce splash beyond the catchment area, so the pump is far less likely to run dry.
- No mains water connection required — the water is fully self-contained and recirculated.
- Natural slate, expertly finished — a high-end look that ages beautifully.
- Quality branded pumps — every pump carries a minimum two-year warranty and built-in flow control, so you can easily set your ideal flow.
- Heavy-duty galvanised grids — made from 3mm gauge steel, 50% heavier and stronger than the 2mm grids many competitors use, built to last a lifetime.
- A decade of proven quality — we've sold hundreds of these across the last ten years, and they remain a water feature that stands the test of time, staying beautiful for years to come.
About Our Slate Spheres
Each sphere is handcrafted by our artisans, who carefully embed natural slate pieces into a robust concrete core. As water cascades over the textured surface, it catches the light in a mesmerising display of droplets, bringing gentle movement and subtle sparkle to your garden.
Because every sphere is handmade, you'll notice small, natural variations from one to the next — no two are ever identical. Rather than a flaw, this is part of the appeal: each sphere has its own individual character, making yours genuinely one of a kind.
These timeless pieces bridge classic and contemporary design, making them a versatile centrepiece for any garden style. Their natural materials and organic form allow them to blend effortlessly into your landscape — nestled among ornamental grasses, set against structured boxwood, or standing alone as a striking focal point.
For dramatic impact, try grouping spheres of varying sizes together. This arrangement can turn a simple garden space into an artistic water feature that delights throughout the seasons.
- A distinctive look — the natural tones of slate sit comfortably in modern, contemporary, traditional and rustic gardens alike.
- Flexible placement — install nestled among plants, as a standalone centrepiece, within a pond, or grouped in varying sizes.
FAQs
Operation & Maintenance
Should the pump run continuously? No — this is a decorative feature, so you're free to turn it on and off as you like.
Do I need to change the water regularly? No — the water is continuously recycled within the feature.
Installation
Do I need a professional to install it?
- Electrician: Not required, but you'll need an outdoor power socket within 10m of the feature (the pump includes a 10m cable).
- Plumber: Not required — the feature recycles its own water. Simply top up with a hose occasionally to replace any water lost to evaporation.
How should the reservoir be positioned? The reservoir rim should sit 10–20mm above ground level, to prevent soil washing in during heavy rain. Once covered with pebbles or cobbles, this slight elevation won't be visible.
Does the reservoir need a concrete foundation? Usually not — a level bed of sharp sand (100mm deep) is normally sufficient. The exception is 900mm spheres on very wet or unstable ground, which may require a concrete foundation with backfilled sides.
Will freezing temperatures damage the sphere? We've been selling slate sphere water features for ten years, and normal UK winters pose no problems. During more extreme or prolonged freezes, it's best to let the pump run continuously to keep the water circulating.
